One limitation of this type of sling is that they can only be used in a limited temperature range. In addition, the material (usually polyester) is more susceptible to chemicals than lashing chains. An advantage that should not be underestimated and should be considered above all for economic reasons is the low purchase cost of lifting straps and round slings. In terms of load capacity, they also have a very low weight, which is particularly important in the transport sector. Another plus point is the manual handling and the very low risk of injury.
Reusable lifting straps in the pre-slung process
Their advantages mean that lifting straps are also popular and frequently used in off-site transport. In the pre-slung process, the re-useable lifting straps are attached to the goods to be transported for several lifting operations. Once the transport chain is complete, the belt must be inspected by a competent person before it can be used again. If disposable lifting straps are used for this purpose, it should be noted that they must be cut up and disposed of after transport. DIN EN 1492-1:2000-10 stipulates that the ratio of the load-bearing capacity to the minimum breaking force must be 1:7. We meet this value for all our lifting straps and round slings, indicated under the item “Safety factor”. In addition, all lifting straps are tested according to DIN EN 1492-1 and round slings according to DIN EN 1492-2.
Use in extreme temperature ranges
It is particularly important here that the use in extreme temperature ranges has been approved by the manufacturer.
- Green label (PA) and blue label (PES): Here, round slings and lifting straps made of man-made fibres, such as polyester, are considered safe for use in the temperature range -40°C to +100°C.
- Brown label (PP): Safe use is in the temperature range of -40°C to +80°C.
Use in conjunction with chemicals
Here, too, the use must be approved by the manufacturer. Additional information on conditions of use and duration of use is mandatory:
- Chemical
- Concentration
- Temperature
- Exposure time
If the securing device has come into contact with alkalis, acids or other aggressive substances during use, it must be cleaned before storage and must be completely dry before the next use.
Especially for use in stage technology, we also offer black round slings in our online shop for cargo securing. They are almost invisible, so they integrate wonderfully into the standard black stage design and provide ideal securing.
