Clamping boards should always be very carefully crafted and the materials should be of excellent quality. If untested older products are being used in companies or private households, rapid replacement with innovative parting wall locks is highly recommended. Suitable products can be found in the wide range of car trailer accessories.
The assembly of the clamping boards is very simple and therefore quickly done. The mandatory accessories for securing the cargo on the trailer only need to be placed on the edge of the car trailer and fixed or tensioned by means of a clamping lever.
The safety factor should always be considered in today’s traffic conditions. However, certain risks can never be completely ruled out and mishaps or accidents can happen within seconds. It is therefore important to plan cargo securing on the trailer prudently.
As there can be strong forces on a car trailer during transport, especially when starting and braking, reliable cargo securing is essential. For example, a 50 kilogram bag of potting soil at a speed of 40 km/h can have a mass weight of 2,000 kg acting on the cargo securing on the trailer (calculation: impact speed x weight of the transported goods). The consequences of an accident would therefore be devastating. Even adapting your driving technique or merely braking lightly does not offer a solution here, as the laws of physics cannot be influenced by this. Transport with a car trailer should therefore always be secured with the help of high-quality car trailer accessories.
For example, DIN EN 12640 states that car trailers must have sufficient lashing points. This applies to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. Nevertheless, this can be taken as a clear recommendation that even smaller trailers should be equipped with at least 4 lashing points.
If the lashing points are located at the corners of the vehicle floor, the load can already be well secured. Goods transported on a car trailer can be fixed with the following car trailer accessories, among others:
- Anti-slip mats to prevent loose loads from slipping.
- Lashing straps for lashing down the goods so that there is a tight fit in the car trailer.
- Nets to secure loose transport goods across the entire area.
For form-fit cargo securing on the trailer, heavy objects should always be put in position first, at the very bottom of the trailer. For larger car trailers, a load distribution plan is ideal. The entire load should also be loaded without gaps to prevent the items from falling through. Clamping boards or parting wall locks, which can be found in the car trailer accessories section, can help here.
